it’s crazy-mad hot

19 07 2006

I know we’re having a heat wave across the nation, but in the areas with lots of humidity, it’s almost unbearable.  Some places don’t have to deal with these kind of conditions, where the air is typically dry.  But here in Arkansas, it only takes a few seconds to start sweating when you go out in this heat.  It just ain’t right…

How did people make it in these areas before air conditioning?  Even at 10:00 PM it may still be 90 degrees and humid.  Right now (3:15) it’s 102 with a heat index of 110.

I really appreciate having air conditioning in my house.  It’s so easy to take it for granted.  Yesterday afternoon the power was out in my neighborhood when I got home from work, and it stayed off for about two hours.  So I was really thankful when the power came back on and the A/C worked again.  It’s amazing how easy it is to take our luxuries for granted…  Many parts of the world don’t have A/C or even running water… and yet they have to deal with the heat also.  So I really don’t have much room to complain about such things…

I heard that the machine that measures the heat index just burst into flames…

Hotter down here

Come live in TX where the coastal moisture drives the humidity up to 80 – 85%. Then add 105 degrees and you start to get a glimpse of what hell will be like….. Thankfully I’ve accepted the Lord.

Thankfully here in Arkansas we’ve recently had a cool front come through and now it’s only in the mid-90’s…
