dreams of playing pro baseball

27 03 2007

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a nonroster invitee to a Major League Baseball spring training camp?  One Brewers fan got the chance this year, and found that even the basics at the professional level are much harder than they look.  He wrote about his experience here : The Unnatural.

I used to dream about that (but not for the Brewers!).  I’d like to play for the Atlanta Braves or the Boston Red Sox.  But now that I’m over 30 and out-of-shape, my chances of that happening are around zero percent.  But that’s okay.  That wasn’t God’s plan for my life.  I still get to play some sports, like softball and tennis, and that’s a lot of fun.

It used to make me kinda sad to realize that I had to give up certain dreams, like playing professional baseball or creating video games, but I’m not sad about that anymore.  I’ve learned that finding God’s will and pursuing that is what I’m supposed to be doing, and it’s much more fulfilling than any of that other stuff.  Of course those other things are fun and enjoyable, but to accomplish what I am supposed to be doing is such a great feeling that I don’t know how to describe it.  To know that you did what God called you to do, and ministered to people, is awesome.  I wish I could say I always do all that I’m supposed to do, but sometimes I get distracted.  Thankfully, God is patient with us.  And so I will continue striving to fulfill my calling in Christ…  Jesus deserves our best!
