Amazon’s Customer Votes program

19 11 2007

Amazon.com is running a holiday shopping promotion called “Customers Vote”.  If you have an interest in any of the products, then you’ll want to sign up.  Items include the Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360, Sony PS3, a Panasonic digital SLR, a high-definition camcorder, a Blu-Ray Disc Player, an HD DVD player, a TiVo DVR, a laptop, a Samsung 46″ 1080p HDTV, and more.  The way it works is that you vote for one of three items in each round, and if that item wins and you are randomly selected (out of 100 to 1000, depending on the item), you have the option that day to buy that item for a ridiculously low price, like 70 to 80 percent off.

Pay attention to the rules, because you have to check in with them each day for each round you enter in.  And you have to make your purchase that day if you win one.  And you must have an active credit card on file with them.  Also, there are some secondary prizes at less-discounted prices.  And here’s a tip — you can view the current results before voting, which can be helpful, because certain items have a sizable lead already.  And if you plan to participate, you need to act soon.  Day 1’s voting ends tomorrow night (Tuesday, November 20).

Of course, it’s up to you if you spend the time on it.  But to have the option to buy a Nintendo Wii for $79 is an incredibly good deal, if you happen to be randomly selected.  (The normal price is $250, and they’re very difficult to find in stock.)  And even if you don’t want one, it would make a great gift.
