who the U.S. Constitution is for

28 02 2008

There have been a lot of attacks on our Constitution in recent years, and often it have been by groups that were for the full “separation of church and state” (which is misconstrued to suit their purposes).  They claim that it’s supposed to be that way, but I came across this quote by one of the founding fathers of our country, which might shed some light on that :

Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people.  So great is my veneration of the Bible that the earlier my children begin to read it, the more confident will be my hope that they will prove useful citizens of their country and respectful members of society. ~ John Adams, second President of the United States

Not only was he the second President of the U.S., but he also was the first Vice President, and he was a sponsor of the American Revolution in Massachusetts and was a driving force for independence in 1776.  In fact, Thomas Jefferson called him the “Colossus of Independence”.  Yet John Adams obviously thought the foundations of our country were set on the principles of the Bible.

I wonder if public schools are allowed to teach this in American History classes…
