the best church in Conway, Arkansas

31 01 2011

This is just my opinion, of course.  I don’t think it’s healthy to compare churches (or people, for that matter).  But if you live in or near Conway, Arkansas, and don’t have a home church, I recommend visiting The Rock Solid Church.   God is doing a great work there, and the people are friendly, and there are numerous ministries for different age groups and interests.  It’s an exciting time to be there.

So if you would like to have an encounter with God, please join us.  Everyone is welcome.

The church is visible from the interstate, next to the Roller McNutt funeral home.   It’s on Eighth Avenue, across from the Fifth Avenue park.  Services are at 10:30 Sunday morning (with Sunday School at 9:30), 6:00 Sunday evening, and 7:00 Wednesday evening.

back in blogging

17 03 2009

To all my regular readers, welcome to my new and improved blog!  I’m glad to have you along for the ride.  🙂

This may not be the final look of it, but I just got it online tonight, and it’s late now, so this will have to do for now.

So far it looks like everything has moved correctly.  If you notice any problems, let me know.

blog upgrade today

14 03 2009

I’m about to do some much-needed upgrades on this blog, which will require me to shutdown the plug-ins, update files, and modify the database.  So if the site looks and behaves differently today, that’s why.  Also, the blog may go down at various times during the upgrades.  So don’t worry — it’s planned.

Sorry for any inconvenience.  I can only imagine how distressing it might be if you come here to read my ramblings and are unable to at a given time.  Just remember that the waiting will increase your patience.  🙂

This is only an upgrade.  Had this been an actual emergency, it would be bad.  But we will soon return you to your regularly scheduled blogging.  Thank you, drive thru…

three years of blogging

2 03 2009

I’ve now been blogging for 3 years.  That’s hard to believe!  (Well, actually it’s not — I can believe it, because I have faith.  I also have proof, in this case.)  I’ve even managed to keep a few of my regular readers the whole time, which I consider quite the accomplishment.  But I’m not forgetting about the newer regular readers — it’s not your fault that you didn’t know about this blog when it first started.  It was perhaps obscure at first, but now it’s not-so-obscure.  🙂  If I can keep my newer regular readers for the next few years, then that will be another huge accomplishment.

But enough rambling.  Or is it?  After all, my rambling is why you’re here, right?  Ha!  Actually, my ramblings here usually have more of a point, and this kind of inane rambling belongs at my other blog.  🙂  But I digress…

Here’s the basic blog stats for the past 3 years.

Total # of posts: 511
Total # of comments: 681
Total # of spam comments blocked: 39,528

I wish I had the total number of pageviews, but my stats program started malfunctioning a few months ago, and so I don’t have that information anymore.  And let me say I’m really thankful for Akismet for blocking all those spam comments.  I wouldn’t have time to manually do that, nor would I want to.

If you thought the number of comments seems a little low compared to the number of posts, I thought so too.  But I usually don’t write comments on my own posts, so that’s up to you.  🙂  I’m kinda joking, although I would enjoy more discussion and hearing more points-of-view as well as your experiences.  So comment all you want.

I realize the frequency of new posts has been down lately, but that’s partly due to some technical difficulties, and also I’m in the process of a major upgrade of this site, which is taking some time.  But soon that’ll be finished, and content will begin to flow more regularly again.  There’s no shortage of ideas.

Thanks for reading!

too much politics lately

26 01 2009

I just realized I’ve written 4 straight posts on politics.  (WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO ME?!?)  Don’t get used to that.  I can’t take too much politics.  I’m ready to get back to writing on Christianity, with the occasional post on other topics.  So, for better or worse, that’s what you’re gonna get.  🙂

update to the FreeRice game

21 11 2008

A while back I wrote about the FreeRice game, how by answering questions you donate food to help those in need.  It’s so simple, and it actually makes you smarter because you learn new words.

Well, now there are more topics to choose from, so if you got bored with the previous game, you can play other ones to donate rice.  Just click on “Change Subjects”.  You can answer math problems (multiplication tables), and there are geographical questions, and there are even art questions — where you identify famous works of art.  They’ve also added more words and levels to the vocabulary section (which is my favorite of them all).

If you say you’d like to help those in need, this is your chance to show it.  Because now there’s no excuse of not having enough money to give to charity — all you have to give is some time.

I encourage you to bookmark the site and go back there frequently.

back from my short vacation

8 09 2008

It’s been several days since I’ve posted anything here, and I apologize for the drought (if any regular readers actually miss my ramblings).  🙂  I was on a short vacation, so now the posts will resume at their regularly scheduled time.  I spent a couple of days in the Dallas / Arlington / Fort Worth area, catching a few baseball games and a service at The Potter’s House.  I may write on these things in the coming days.

I really need to get back to writing, because fellow blogger Fab is actually ahead of me in posts this month, and that hasn’t happened since… never.  But I’ll catch up.  I don’t think he can maintain his current pace for this month.  🙂
